Are you a healthy weight?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indicator if your weight is in proportion to your height. To work this out you divide your weight in kg by your height in meters squared. The ranges are shown below but check out our BMI calculator to work out your own BMI.
Under 20 kg/m2 – Under weight
20-25 kg/m2 – The ideal range (healthy weight)
25-30 kg/m2 – Overweight
30+ kg/m2 – Obese
Body shape, e.g. waist circumference, can be a indicator of health. This is a measurement taken around the smallest part of your waist. The healthy weight range is:
Men under 94cm (37in)
Women under 80cm (32in)
If you are overweight or obese you should consider how you might loose weight. Excess weight can reduce your life expectancy. A weight loss of 10% can significantly improve your health and quality of life. In certain medical conditions this can be of particular importance, such as:
- Diabetes
- Impaired Glucose Tolerance
- High Cholesterol
- High Blood Pressure
- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
If you are under weight you should seek the advice of a dietitian or go and see your GP. I can provide information for those people who struggle to gain weight, on how to fortify their meals to make them more calorie dense.
I will be happy do discuss any of the above with you. Just fill out our contact for giving brief details.
